Over all I really liked it. I hated the whole "Let's introduce new characters and act like they've always been here" thing, especially when one of those characters is a semi-divine species that there is only (originally anyways) suppose to be two of in existence, but at least the writers had the decency to have every other character give a convincing "WTF are you talking about 'you've always had a brother'" reaction. Honestly, considering how socially awkward/inept Twilight is it's believable that she would never mention to anyone else she had a sibling(s?).
But, I enjoyed it enough to give it a 5/5 on DerpyHoovesNews and threw away all of my Candence hate comics that I was getting ready to make post finale.
I actually have yet to see any noticeable reaction to this... Like, at all. Maybe a few commenters here or there, a few peeps trying to rationalize it, but no outcries of heresy or fandom betrayal like with fuuuuuucking "Derpy".
Still, awesome comic Those faces are all kinds of creepy though... Like seriously, look at that dude to the right in panel two
Sorta. Vinyl Scratch has always been a fan favorite Background pony (despite having a mere 8 seconds of screen time...) and the fandom picked up on her and really characterized her. Somehow a consensus was reached that she should have red eyes under her sunglasses. The latest episode showed her with magenta eyes.
People were perturbed. No big shakes though. It's not Ditzy Doo grade lunacy. (How Ditzy Doo or "derpy" became the fandom mascot in lieu of the waaay cooler and better (fan) characterized DJPON3, I will never know...)
People love someone they can laugh at, someone who isn't better than them. This is why all the male protagonists of TV shows are fat, middle aged and bumbling (Think Homer Simpson, Tim Taylor.) We tend to treat cool and elite as being jerky. (Think Blueblood.) Ergo Derpy was a shoo-in.
So once again the show smacks the fandom in the face. I figure they'll ignore it like they ignore anything else they don' like. (I'm interested in how they'll treat cadence, they've been using the 'Luna and Celestia are immortal unique goddesses' line for so long I don't think they can change.)
